ABSTRACT

Research is a dynamic activity that travels a long and winding trail from start to finish. It is not a single event, rather, the act of doing research is a process. And like instructional design, evaluation, decision-making and planning, the research cycle has a set of basic elements that interrelate and interact with each other. The purpose of this chapter is to look at the research process first from a conceptual perspective, then from a planning perspective. While it provides an introduction to some of the topics that are discussed in other chapters, it is both an overview and an integration of the whole research process.
