ABSTRACT

In this final chapter of the book we will examine the concept of globalisation and discuss why it is now of such interest to academics, journalists and politicians, as well as to people in business. A good starting point is the message from the previous chapter, that some of the more conventional ways of thinking about and describing political life need to be modified in the light of developments in what is often called international politics. The theme of this chapter is that terms like transnational, or even postnational, may be more applicable to the changing condition of world politics. Because of what we are about to discuss, the importance of the distinction between these two concepts should not be underestimated, and before taking the discussion further we should think about what the terms mean.
