ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3 I introduced a brainstorming technique to explore some of the potential difficulties associated with place value. I could, of course, have opted to write a book where all the topics in a typical mathematics curriculum were analysed, saving you the time and energy of reading this chapter. I decided not to for three reasons. The first is frivolous in so far as, at the moment, I feel that my mathematical knowledge is insufficient to cope with such a challenge. Lest you say the same applies to you, be assured that I have suggestions for resolving that particular difficulty!
