ABSTRACT

The Web cannot and does not provide a completely common and neutral environment for global international communication between all cultures. To participate actively in the informational exchange offered by the Web, the people of different cultures must obviously speak the dominant language of the Web and be able to read its alphabetic characters. At the moment that language is English. But, while many Greeks today do speak English, this particular strand of bilingualism is not a given; the ability to read and write both Greek and English fluently characterizes primarily the professional and intellectual classes.1
