ABSTRACT
Assessments of the Collège de sociologie (1937-9) as a group reflect the particular challenges posed by a socio-historical phenomenon eccentric to standard disciplinary criteria. Some detractors dismiss as puerile and/ or impossible the very premise of surpassing conventional boundaries of intellectual exchange in order to generate political and social activity.1
