ABSTRACT

Throughout his working life, which ended only with his death in 1989, Sir John Hicks maintained a strong interest in capital theory. The word ‘capital’ is used in the title of three of his most important books: Value and Capital, Capital and Growth and Capital and Time. But his interest did not begin with Value and Capital, because there was a good deal about capital in his earliest book The Theory of Wages, arguably more than is to be found in Value and Capital itself.
