ABSTRACT

As a relatively young field of endeavour, building cost modelling is still seeking to establish itself as a worthy scientific enterprise. It does not yet have an accepted theoretical underpinning or established terminology. In different parts of the world, model developers and users are rooted in different disciplines. Architects, design engineers, cost engineers, quantity surveyors and others have their own customs and preoccupations, and generate their own mystique. Communication in the field is poor, with consequent misunderstanding and duplication of effort.
