ABSTRACT

This is not a chapter about staff development activities that have the acquisition of multimedia skills as a spin-off. Rather, it is about a multimedia development project that acted as a catalyst for staff development (Race 1989). Essentially, the project involved combining the existing skills of Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) staff with those of an outside consultant to design and develop a CDROM package for a course dealing with the history of Hong Kong. The project gave the OUHK staff the chance to be pathfinders in a technology-based development that could enhance their skills in a variety of ways which are discussed in this chapter.
