ABSTRACT

Trends to raise institutional status and standards through quality assurance place heavy demands on teaching staff in tertiary institutions in New Zealand. The expectations are that they will teach more students with fewer resources by embracing innovative teaching methods and technologies. At the same time, they are required to gain higher-level qualifications and add research and publication to their already excessive workloads. This chapter describes a staff development initiative aimed at promoting greater efficiency in course design, delivery and management through progress towards the wider adoption of flexible and open learning.
