ABSTRACT

In 1995 the gross turnover in the Dutch construction sector (residential and non-residential (R&NR), civil engineering (CE) and installation enterprises) amounted to about 90 billion guilders (approx. $48 billion), no VAT included. Turnover is expected to increase until 2002 at the average growth rate of 2 percent a year, to more than 100 billion guilders. About half of the industry’s turn-over in construction industry is made in housing (residential), a third in non residential buildings, and a small percentage (20%) in civil engineering related investments (roads, bridges, dikes, canals etc). The industry consists of many small and medium enterprises, with a few large firms. The industry accounts for about 10 percent of the Dutch gross national product and approximately 12 percent of employment. % to size of enterprises[CBS 1997, Bouwcijfers 1995–1996]
