Bear in mind that silences and rests are just as much part of the fabric of text as the words themselves. For this reason be aware of the feelings and thoughts that surround a word. They reveal your character’s attitude to a word. Thinking only about the word when singing is rarely sufficient. It encourages you to comment on the text rather than express a character’s thoughts and feelings through the text. Make the words important not self-important.
