ABSTRACT

A typical issue of an alternative newspaper from the late 1970s or early 1980s might feature a straight news report of tenants trying to get their damp homes repaired, a picket’s eye view of a strike at a local factory, a preview of a feminist event such as a film show, a court report of a case involving some anti-fascist activists and a lengthy investigation into a housing development proposed by a councillor who was both a landowner and a member of the Planning Committee considering the application.
