ABSTRACT

Although the theory of a privileged cosmic time is the sort of physical time that most likely applies to reality, there are other general relativistic theories of time and some of these are taken by physicists more seriously than others. In this section and the following sections, I describe several theories of time, beginning with the ones that physicists think are the most serious candidates for theories that may be found to be applicable to physical reality and ending with the ones they believe are highly unlikely to be confirmed by any observations of physical reality. Although only the theory of privileged cosmic time is widely accepted today as having an application to reality, some physicists believe there may be reason to think that some other temporal notions may also apply to reality.
