John was also supportive and I made plans to attend a game and meet the team in November, after the season had started. In this meeting, with John absent, I explained my interests and asked permission to “spend time” with the team, for purposes of doing research. I told the players I wanted to “get an idea of what it is like to play hockey at an elite level.”
