BW: I’d like to start by asking you how you came to Jonson, what baggage you brought with you?
SM: I think I brought rather a lot of negative baggage, which, I’m afraid, a lot of people do. ‘Suffers in comparison to Shakespeare, second best to Shakespeare,’ instead of it being as it is, instead of realising that it’s just completely different; it’s a totally original and different voice, almost as if he’s writing a different art form sometimes; a completely different understanding of the theatre.
