ABSTRACT
Introduction The interest here is in seeing what kind of understanding of economics, in its connection to politics and society, is manifest in the literary work of Greek antiquity. For example, how long before systematic economic theory was there an understanding of regularities in the economy? Were politicaleconomic necessities felt and if so, expressed? In which form was the image of a good economy, one ordered according to established principles, conceived?
