ABSTRACT

One of the most significant changes in the role of school management since the Education Reform Act of 1988 has been the management of the school’s financial and other resources. Pre-1988, senior management in schools had very little control over budgets, since these were set and administered by the LEA and there was little opportunity to use resources flexibly by viring money from one budget heading to another. Since the introduction of LMS, the control and administration of the school budget has been the sole responsibility of the head and the school’s governing body. This chapter will discuss the role of the management team, working with the governors, in making the best use of the school’s financial and other resources to achieve the educational aims of the school.
