ABSTRACT

As a business evolves from a pioneering enterprise to a managed organization, so it requires a new or transformed cast of leading managerial characters. No longer do entrepreneurs and animateurs dominate the show. A youthful Bill Gates and Ricardo Semler need to ‘grow up’, as they both have done, or else step aside. The world has grown too complex for a youthful orientation to prevail on its own. Hence companies in Germany or Japan often supersede those in the UK or even the US as models of efficiency.
