ABSTRACT

The four features identified by Negroponte as the driving force behind the move to an information (and as Negroponte also suggests a postinformation)2 age raise many ethical questions that are often overlooked in a utopian view of the digital era. It is not that an increased dependency on digital information gives rise to fundamentally new ethical questions, but that information and communications technology can change the balance of power between holders of information. As a result previously accepted norms in the ethics of information are challenged and require re-evaluation.
