ABSTRACT

The focus of the IB Asia study was essentially predictive — making assertions about the types of buildings that would best serve the needs of their occupants well into the twenty-first century. In order to do this authoritatively it was necessary to understand current practice in the region, on the grounds that what was happening now in these leading buildings was likely to permeate through to the rest of the Asian marketplace as the technology becomes more available and affordable, as the benefits are proven, and as other developing centres strive to construct landmark buildings as symbols of their increasing prosperity.
