ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the possible relevance of resource-based approaches to the analysis of multinational enterprise. We shall consider what such approaches may contribute to questions concerning the nature of multinational enterprise,1 and in particular why a firm might choose this method of expansion over alternatives. It will be suggested that the resource-based perspective has been unjustly neglected in the study of multinational enterprise, and that recognition of the potential contribution it can make in this context could be of considerable benefit to research into multinational enterprise.
