chapter  8
Personal and social education
Pages 17

Personal and social education in primary schools tends to be taken for granted. Class teachers see it as part of their role to educate the whole child but it tends to be an area which does not receive as much thought and evaluation as some other aspects of primary education. Schools may not have an explicit programme of personal and social education, and what is taught may be very much left to the interests of the particular teacher. This is particularly the case in the present climate where pressure to raise academic standards is foremost in people’s minds.
