ABSTRACT

The emergence of trans-European networks (TENs) on the agenda of the EU has been driven by the changing strategic requirements of European business. The gradual liberalisation of European markets has increased the commercial salience of mobility and accessibility within modern economies underlining the role of TENs as the physical support for the increasingly international actions of enterprises and consequently as a powerful factor in the integration of European economies. The development of TENs is split across three broad sectors:

• transport; • telecommunications; • energy.
