ABSTRACT

This chapter comprises four main sections. First, the client organisation and the importance of strategic briefing are considered. It is the client who is the ultimate customer of the procurement process. The success of every construction project is dependent upon the ability of construction professionals to understand the needs of their client. Despite this it is the interface between the client organisation and the construction team that remains the most problematic. Many construction professionals remain naive about the client organisations for which they work. If clients are to achieve value for money from the construction industry, then construction professionals must learn to manage the software as well as the hardware. As we approach and start the next millennium, to be a good builder is no longer enough.
