ABSTRACT

This chapter explores inclusion and exclusion within the Republic of Ireland in the context of a national policy that integrates children with special needs where possible, and retains the right to segregate where necessary (Ireland 1993). Overall responsibility for the chapter is shared by the authors, but sometimes our individual voices are presented and differences of view are apparent. We start by giving some of the Irish context, particularly in terms of educational policies bearing on issues of integration. We then present our analysis and description of integration in three schools.
