ABSTRACT

Geoff Harcourt is perhaps best known for his contribution to the capital theory debates of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. However, another important element of Geoff s wideranging interests is his long-standing contribution to the debate on the economics of Keynes; as witnessed, for example, by two of his publications in the 1980s (Harcourt 1985, 1987) and his more recent editorial role in The General Theory (second edition) (Harcourt and Riach, 1996). The links between these two elements of Geoff s work are, in the minds of many, somewhat obscure. Consequently, it is the intention of this chapter to draw attention to the relationship between the capital debates and Keynesian economics.
