ABSTRACT

When considering assessment, recording and reporting a geography coordinator should look at various factors:

■ you have a responsibility to monitor what geography is being taught, how it is being taught and the outcomes of that teaching on pupils’ learning;

■ you need to understand how teachers use the assessment, recording and reporting cycle to inform their planning;

■ you need to be aware of the assessment evidence needed by different people and how they might use it; ■ you need to collect evidence to inform your judgments and support the need for any changes; ■ you have to develop skills in creating two types of broad perspective on what is happening in your

school. The first is the ability to monitor children’s geographical learning as they move up through the school. The second is the ability to see how the whole school geography policy is changing over time and affecting overall standards of learning.
