ABSTRACT

Nationwide is a sort of mirror which responds, I would argue in a most intelligent way, to the requirements of the day. If today nothing of real significance, socially or politically, has happened, then Nationwide will go and do a jolly item-that will make us all laugh-on a duck that plays the piano. But similarly, on a day that the prime minister calls an election, the entire programme will be thrown-all the ducks will disappear with the dishwater-and the whole programme will become an in-depth examination of political issues.’
