ABSTRACT
Throughout Moses and Monotheism Freud remains preoccupied with causalmechanistic explanations for the remarkable transformative power of ideals. In this, his skepticism concerning the autonomy of intellectual, ethical, and creative capacities is quite evident. Nevertheless, meaningful ruptures in the reductionistic program continue to appear, leading to further articulation of latent themes concerning psycho-cultural development.
