ABSTRACT
Soviet foreign policy during the first postwar decade went through three main phases: a Grand Alliance phase (1945-7); a phase of cold war confrontation and polarisation (1947-50); and a phase of de-escalation and stabilisation of the cold war conflict (1950-6).
