ABSTRACT
Perceptions of street children are mostly based on notions of 'abandonment'. It is the absence of a home and a family which defines such children. But interestingly enough, while notions of childhood have been explored in trying to understand the causes and consequences of this social phenomenon, those of the family have not, though it is presumably by the family that such children have been abandoned.
