ABSTRACT
William Morrison, a chaplain in Wandsworth Prison at the end of the nineteenth century, was an outspoken commentator on both penal matters and the causes of crime. In the passage below, taken from his Crime and Its Causes (1891), he argues the familiar Victorian line that there was no significant link between crime and destitution.
