ABSTRACT

The causes of energy inefficiency discussed in the previous chapter are playing a large part in leading humanity to environmental disaster. This is despite the fact that many of them on their own don’t look particularly serious, and others look like mistakes which are easily made and not really anyone’s fault. Nevertheless, their total impact is to make a central contribution towards global warming, with the disastrous consequences outlined in Chapter 1. What at first sight look like fairly harmless economic factors turn out to be potentially catastrophic.
