1 Problem Area
International developments in elite sports have also found their way across Austria’s borders. Looking for ways and means to increase performance results in the call for including scientific knowledge and research. What is the situation concerning scientific support for elite athletes in Austria? This question will be dealt with in three parts in the following. At the beginning there will be a summary about Austrian institutions scientifically supporting Austrian elite athletes with a description of their tasks and possibilities. Afterwards there will be a critical overview presenting strong and weak points of these institutions regarding the task of scientific support in order to draw concrete conclusions for improvement in the situation in Austria in the final part.
