ABSTRACT

Jeffrey Clark was until his death in 1995, Lecturer in Anthropology at James Cook University. He conducted several periods of field research with Wiru and Huli people in the Papua New Guinea Highlands, which provided the basis for his 1985 PhD from the University of Adelaide, and a number of essays on topics including gender, sexuality, Christianity, and the state. Over 19941995 he was Research Fellow on the Politics of Tradition Project at the Australian National University. He completed a monograph, Steel to Stone, dealing with colonial experiences in the Southern Highlands.
