ABSTRACT
Children spend approximately one-fifth of their school life in the playground. It is a time when they can interact freely with one another, gain social skills, and be active and inventive in their play. It is the most unstructured part of the school day and the place where children are most left to their own devices. For many children it is also a time of extreme stress and the experience of school which overrides all else.
