ABSTRACT

Levers and Ducks? It does not seem a very likely combination does it and yet in one Infant school there seemed to be a natural and logical connection. A group of six-year-olds were being encouraged by their teacher to look at the action of a lever. She had made a simple lever using geo-strips. Carefully labelled this was displayed prominently in the classroom so that the children could reach it and see how it worked. At the same time a duckling arrived in the classroom, brought by a parent for the children’s interest. The duckling was looked at, talked about, weighed, watched, listened to, had poems written in his honour and carefully drawn-in fact, well used!
