ABSTRACT

Janet Turner, the Principal of Western Coast Senior High School (SHS) in the Perth metropolitan area of WA, is promoting innovations in her school aimed at improving the quality of the curriculum, teaching and learning. As an employee of the WA Government, Janet is committed to its education policies and does what is requested of her in her position as its representative. In her five years at Western Coast SHS, Janet has guided the school through three distinct stages in her attempts to influence the quality of the curriculum, teaching and learning provided to students. The early years of Janet's life were spent in an eastern suburb of Perth, but her parents decided to move to a western suburb when she was five so that the children could be close to the schools that their father wished them to attend.
