ABSTRACT

Examination of the Skarżysko prisoners’ struggle for survival reveals that it had its own dynamics, methods and strategies, some of which were unalterable, while others changed with the period in the camp's history or the nature of the prisoner's “tier”. The “Radom Tier” is of particular interest in this context, since, unlike the prisoners from Majdanek and Płaszów, for most of them Skarżysko was their first camp experience. Thus, the stratagems and artifices developed by the Radomites became models of survival techniques later learned and copied by prisoners of other transports.
