The use of French in journalism As in scientific discourse (cf. text 41), newspaper articles reporting news items often favour constructions which suggest impersonality and objectivity: thus we find here use of passive constructions (11. 3, 21), pronominal passives (se maintient, 11.21-22, s'effectue, 1. 26), and presentatives (voici Ie texte ... , 1. 1).
