ABSTRACT

From time to time their collective sense of belonging seems to mean more to ‘the lads’; when its discourse vitalises the leisure life-world with a breathtaking intensity. This spectacular leisure experience is intimately bound up with ‘the lads’’ conception of the postulated community. Such occurrences-as this chapter will demonstrate-are the animating spirit of the leisure life-world. These episodes, when customary descriptions of time and space collapse, evoke in ‘the lads’ a collective feeling of belonging that is amplified beyond conscious understanding.
