ABSTRACT
A brief history of Indian1 gaming Native American casinos result from the 1988 Indian Gambling Regulatory Act (IGRA). The IGRA is a federal law stemming from the US Supreme Court’s decision in the case of California v. Cabazon Band of Mission Native Americans. This decision found comparable Native American gambling legal, where a state has legalized any formof gaming. There has been amassive proliferation of Indian casinos throughout the country. Currently, 124 of the 557 federally recognized2 tribes operate gaming facilities. This industry of more than 120 casinos and 220 highstakes bingo games sprang from a single bingo hall on the Seminole reservation in Florida.
