ABSTRACT
Brazil is large in size, and is the richest country among those with the biggest number of poor people.1 Up until 1900, Brazilian women were insignificant in sport. They were absent from sports fields as well as from every other form of public life. The country, as a whole, was opposed to the emancipation of women.
