ABSTRACT

Protection managers secure their collections and facilities physically as discussed in Chapter 5. They begin to consider remote methods of monitoring and alerting responsible staff of impending dangers. Alarms are mechanisms used to warn of danger or other problems. An alarm is an animal that sounds an alarm when a stranger enters their territory or a bell that rings when a door opens. An alarm is a barrier or piles of material that make noise when they move. There are many electrical light and sound alarms started by precise situations that open or close switches. More complex alarms detect and announce changes in pressure, humidity, sounds, smells, and lights.
