ABSTRACT

With the introduction of psychoactive medications in the 1950s, and with their increasing usage over the subsequent decades, several issues have emerged regarding the interrelationship of psychotropic medications and psychotherapy (“talking” therapy with any of a variety of formats and orientations). These include theoretical issues about the value of medication in the overall treatment of a patient, as well as the practical issues of whether a psychotherapist can also be a medication provider.
