ABSTRACT
In this chapter an attempt is made to illustrate the overwhelming influence of the legacy of colonialism on contemporary educational issues in the Commonwealth Caribbean. Educational patterns and problems are reviewed with special reference to the pressures and constraints of demographic and geographic factors; the development of systems after independence; and questions of regional co-operation in respect of public examinations and the provision of higher education.
