ABSTRACT

The analysis dealing with the question of what development under monetary conditions implies and the problems it entails will be summed up below, the intention being to draw from it some general conclusions on development policy. To facilitate a discussion on the economic policy meaningful under the specific constraints it implies, the underlying assumption will be that a given country either is developing or wishes to develop under the conditions of a monetary economy.70 For that reason, no alternative paths to development will be indicated, although this is not meant to imply that such alternatives are not conceivable or desirable.
