Tribesmen, Government and Political Economy on the North-West Frontier

This chapter is about the economic aspects of the interrelations between the independent tribes of the North-West Frontier and the British-Indian government. Its main point is that the course of change in the tribal economy must be understood not so much in terms of the conventional factors of production, as in terms of tribal political culture and the policy objectives of the government.
