ABSTRACT

Gandhi’s concept of Truth or God, as we have seen, led him to realize the importance of ahisœ as the means for the attainment of Truth, and action in the service of others as the way to its realization. Through the service of humanity and action in the cause of brotherhood, men came to a better understanding and a more complete realization of the nature of Truth or God. All men are united in the common bond of humanity and though there are many bodies there is but one soul. Such is the oneness or unitary nature of human existence, in Gandhi’s view, that we do not exploit others without hurting ourselves ultimately. The implications of these metaphysical beliefs are far-reaching. Hitherto we have examined their social and economic significance; it is necessary now to look at some of their political consequences.
