Cross-dressing by men as well as women emerges regularly in fairy tales and legends from India to Ireland, and from North America to Oceania…Cross-dressing serves as a strategem in war, or a trick to seduce women. Women don men’s clothing to take the place of husbands killed in battle or to avenge their fathers.
